By default, Metal Gear Solid V doesn’t give us the option to configure FOV in the Graphics settings. You can, however, adjust it anyway. I like the option to configure FOV in my games, and these days, a lot of games are are giving the players the option to have full control over FOV.
Let’s get this straight: Fixed FOV isn’t ideal. In fact, it is downright ridiculous. Depending on how far the players are from the monitors or TV, the ideal FOV number differs. For PC games, a good range is 80 to 100. For console, it should be around 50 to 80. Do note that bigger FOV means smaller area visible to the player at a single instant.
Do note that bigger FOV means smaller area visible to the player at a single instant. Since PC players sit very close to their monitors using Keyboard and mouse, FOV needs to be a higher number. Game developers sometimes adjust games to optimize for the platform they are releasing it. But their judgment shouldn’t be taken for granted. It might look good to someone, but not to you.
This is why adjustable FOV is necessary. Metal Gear Solid V graphics settings don’t have this option, but there is a mod that allows you to configure FOV.
Install FOV mod in Metal Gear Solid V
- Download and install Microsoft Visual Studio C++ x64 redistributables.
- Download the mod binaries for MGSV.
- Open the mgsv_tpp_fov.zip archive and extract the d3d11.dll and fov.cfg in MGSV’s folder.
- You can adjust the FOV to your liking using the fov.cfg file. Right-click on it and click on Open with > Notepad. The default number is 106. You can adjust it to whatever value you like.
