I find WWE 2K17’s commentary pretty annoying. In real life, it is nice to listen to two commentators talking about how the wrestlers are mingling in the ring. But, the pre-recorded audio for WWE 2K17 is not nice to hear especially when you are playing for more than a few minutes. The repetitive nature of the commentary is very distracting from the core gameplay itself.
Disabling commentary in WWE 2K17
- Open Steam and go to Library.
- Right click on WWE 2K17 and go to Properties.
- Go to the Local Files tab and click on the Browse local files button.
- This folder should be typically somewhere at
Steam\steamapps\common\WWE2K17. Open the Sounds folder here.
- Select all the files starting with
commin their name and delete them. These are the files that store the commentary audio for WWE 2k17.
Start the game, and now the game won’t play the commentary audio in the background during matches. One thing you should note is that this method doesn’t work for the DLC. If you have the Season Pass, Accelerator and Legends Pack, the game will still play the background commentary while on the matches or the story from them.
If you are wary of messing with game files, be assured that deleting the comm files won’t do anything to your game. In fact, if you want to undo the changes, you can use Steam to verify the game file. That will redownload all of them again to the Sounds folder. You can also cut all the files starting with comm in their name and paste them to another location.
That way, you can just restore them to the Sounds folder saving your bandwidth. I’d certainly choose this option over verifying the game data as downloading game files takes a lot of time over my slow Internet connection.
I don’t know how to disable commentary in the DLCs. If you have any idea, please let me know in the comments section below.
