Gears of War 5 – Fix Lag, FPS Drop, Crashing & Freezing Issues

Gears of War 5 – Fix Lag, FPS Drop, Crashing & Freezing Issues – Gears of War 5 is the sixth installment of the well known third-person shooter, a well-known franchise and loved by many. The developer of Gears of War is The Coalition and the game will be published by none other than Xbox Game studious.

Gears of War 5 Fix Lag

The game was announced back in E3 2018. The game is scheduled to release on 5th September on Xbox and with full-public all platform release on 10th September. A Gears 5 Limited Edition Xbox One X Console bundle was also announced to be released on the release day.

The game will have multiple game modes:

  • Campaign
  • Escape
  • Versus
  • Horde
  • Map Builder

The game has been published by none other than Microsoft, so most people will expect it to be furnished and best performing even on the launch day. But there will be a few hiccups and issues even then. A big title such as this should not have these issues but game developers are not able to test games at scale, so the first fewer releases are taken into feedback and the game is patched after that accordingly.

Players on Reddit and GOW Forums have started complaining about issues related to Lag, Sound Bugs, Crashing and Freezing. In this article, we will find out how to fix these issues and get your game running with the best FPS possible.

Below are the system requirements of the game, do make sure you are somewhere in between or you’ll face problems running the game.

Note: Windows 7 SP1 has been mentioned in the minimum requirements by the devs, but running it is not recommended at all. You should upgrade to 10 right away. You’ll always have troubles running games and other important software.

Recommended:

  • Requires a 64-bit processor and operating system
  • OS: Windows 10 64-bit
  • Processor: AMD Ryzen 3 | Intel i5 Skylake
  • Memory: 8 GB RAM
  • Graphics: AMD Radeon RX 570 | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 970 (Windows 10) | NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660ti (Windows 7)
  • DirectX: Version 12

If you are looking to run the game on the pre-release date (5th September 2019) then you have-to-have the latest version of Windows installed. Other than that, all other requirements mentioned by the game devs seem reasonable, the game is a AAA title and will be heavy and your graphics card will take a toll.

Enough talking, let’s find out how you can fix the issues related to the game.

Update Windows 10

The latest Windows update 18362.329 (KB4512941) has been reported to be causing performance-related issues. Patches are on-the-way and you can check your windows update section to find out more information.

Download Updated Graphics Drivers

Whenever a AAA title is released, Nvidia and AMD are known to push optimization related updates for the games. This generally fixes and FPS related issues unless the problem is with the game.

Intel HD users can download updated drivers from here. Though, I am not sure about the Intel onboard drivers being able to run this game.

Tweak Nvidia Settings

If you are an Nvidia Graphics card user, you can make a few changes using the Nvidia control panel for better gaming performance. Steps for the same have been mentioned below

  • Open Nvidia Control Panel. Right-click on Desktop > Click Nvidia Control Panel
  • Head to Manage 3D Settings > Program Settings
  • Locate Gears of War 5. If the game name doesn’t appear in the list, you can click on the Add button and locate the .exe file.
  • Now from the settings make the following changes
  • Monitor Tech: G-Sync (If available)
  • Maximum Pre-rendered frames: 2
  • Threaded optimization: On
  • Power Management: Prefer Maximum Performance
  • Texture Filtering – Quality:  Performance

Set Game on High-Priority

This might come off as a noob-suggestion but believe me this helps a lot.

  • Start the game
  • Right-click on the taskbar and click “task manager”
  • Locate Gears of War 5 > Right Click > Go to details > Set priority > High.

You might get a permissions error while doing this. This can be fixed by running the task manager with escalated permissions.

Update Xbox App on Windows

Xbox App is still in beta and has multiple issues such as low downloading speeds, game launching issues and so on. However, all of these can be fixed with a mere reset that you can perform easily.

Disable Useless Applications

Memory hogging applications such as Chrome can eat up a lot of RAM and processing power leading to degraded gaming performance. While running the game, it is always recommended that you shut down these applications. You can find memory eating applications easily using Task Manager.

Wait for Developer’s Response

Most of the newer releases have issues on their release day, these are however fixed within a few days or even within a few hours. I am sure this game won’t have any issues like other AAA titles, I do believe this franchise a lot.

If you are still facing FPS drops related issues, it is recommended that you change the game graphics settings to low for the time being.

Do comment below if this helped you out.
